The Image Originally painted in 1976 to honor our country's bicentennial year, The Prayer At Valley Forge was painted to recall that winter of 1777-78, at the lowest, most hopeless and discouraging time in our revolutionary war. For the struggling Americans had been defeated by the mighty British army in battle after battle, and were fast losing all hope. It was at such time that General Washington humbly beseeched God for the strength and the resolution to endure. This masterpiece expresses that powerful affirmation of faith, patriotic duty, and the deep spiritual depths in the founding of our country. As a result "The Prayer at Valley Forge" is a symbol that eloquently communicates the urgent need for prayer in guiding the people, and the leaders of the United States of America.
